Why A Road Trip Is A Great Way To Travel

When our Argentinian friend came to visit us in Latvia for the third time, we knew that it means one thing. A road trip is in order.

When it comes to travel, most people seem to go for the default option of traveling by plane, and whilst this certainly makes sense in a lot of ways and definitely helps you get there a lot faster, it’s also not the only option to get you where you need to go, so if you’ve ever considered the idea of going on a road trip then in this post I am going to share with you some of the reasons why a road trip is a great way to travel – especially for longer distances. Even though Latvia is small, we consider a way from Riga to Liepaja a legit road trip.

Of course when preparing for a road trip, you should certainly plan ahead a bit so that things go smoothly, so making sure your car has had a safety check, that you have the right documents, and that you’ve even installed a dash cam or navigation system if needed. There are plenty of options to choose from, so just have a search for the best dash cams out there to find one that’s suitable for you. But in any case you have to know that cars break. Wallets get lost. People too. So be open minded and ready.

It’s cheaper:

Although flights have definitely gotten far cheaper than they used to be in recent years, a lot of this depends on your overall luck when you buy the tickets, the time of year you’re traveling, and also the amount of tickets you’re buying, traveling by car is typically far cheaper than flying, so if you put gas in the car before you leave then it’s going to take you a lot farther before you have to refuel, and this can be especially economical if you’re traveling with children since gas is something that only needs to be added once and you don’t have to account for every person in the car when looking at the cost.

It can be more relaxing:

Traveling by car is not everyone’s idea of a great and relaxing way to travel, but if you think about it, it can definitely be much more relaxing than dealing with airports – from long lines at security to tiny seats and obnoxious passengers, flying may be fast, but it’s certainly not always the most enjoyable way to travel. Whereas going by car can mean you decide your own schedule and take your time, you can stop when you want, and you can sit back and enjoy the view more than you would if flying.

You can make it part of the trip:

Taking your car means that you can tailor your journey exactly the way you want and make your road trip part of the overall trip by bringing things you like along with you and just being able to enjoy it more than you would when flying. You can have the chance to stop off at places along the way so if you have more time then you can turn each stop into a mini trip on its own.

It gives you a chance to explore:

When driving or being in a car, you get to see so many cool things along the way, so this gives you a chance to explore things as you go that you may not otherwise have gotten to see, and if you’re able to make stops along the way, then you can explore towns and cities that you may have wanted to see, but haven’t had a chance to yet. And when it starts to heavily rain, you can hide in your car, you know.

Keep traveling, folks!
