If you are someone who is on a never-ending quest for self-improvement, you will be well aware that you need to adopt a holistic approach if you are to make the greatest strides. In general, that means that you need to try and improve upon all areas of your life at once, not just one or two. This is something that most people find to be quite difficult, but the truth is that it is the only way to really get to great improvements with regards to yourself. That is why I came a cross several areas of life I need to work on and probably you should, too. As long as you are working on these parts of your life, you will find that you can easily see improvements across the board, so these are all good places to start off from.
1. Interpersonal Skills
Nobody is an island, and the better you are with other people, the more successful you are likely to be in many different spheres of life. I must remind this to myself each day. Especially because I spend hours and days sitting at home and editing pictures. After a few days I forget how to communicate. Of course, not everybody is naturally born with great interpersonal skills, and it might be that you want to find a way to improve your own abilities here. That is actually easier than you might think, and so long as you are happy to spend some time trying to improve these skills you will find that you can make great strides even where you thought you couldn’t. The number one best way to improve your socialising skills is to actually go out and socialise. You can’t work on these skills in theory – only actual real-world practice will enable you to work on them. You need to go out and socialise with many different kinds of people if you are to develop good interpersonal skills, and there is no way around that. (Unfortunately.) I used to try impro theater, or simply gathering of common minded people like photo walks. Of course, you might find that a lack of confidence is getting in the way of you being able to do that – which is one reason why that is itself another hugely common area of life which many people need to improve upon.
The trouble with confidence for most people is that they think it is something they are lacking which they need to try and gain. However that’s not quite right. Confidence is not a skill which you don’t yet have, it is simply you when you are being you in your natural state. If you can be you unashamedly, you will find that you are able to bring a confidence to life which you might well have thought was missing – only to discover it was never missing, but merely buried underneath other worries and concerns. If you are still having trouble working out how you are actually going to be able to do this, the truth is that there are a number of simple tricks and cheats which you can use to boost your confidence even further and faster.
Firstly, try the power poses. If you stand in front of the mirror for two minutes at the start of each day in a power pose, you will find that you feel more capable and confident throughout the day. Similarly, taking a cold shower has been proven to improve your feeling of self-worth and confidence (when I manage to make myself to get under cold water I seriously feel like a superhero), and is something you can easily do within ten minutes in the morning. You might also be able to feel more confident by working on your image or appearance, so long as you are only doing what is right for you personally, and not trying to please anyone else. Do all that, and before you know it you will be walking around tall with a little swagger. That will mean that others view you as confident, which will in turn boost your confidence – and so on, endlessly. Another great way to boost your confidence is to try and master the many other aspects of life which you know you should try and master. One which seems to have a particular effect is money.
In order to be able to have a successful career, you need to know what you want to do and then pursue it as best as you can. Regardless of what it is, if you do it in this way you will find that you can make money from it, and over time you will be able to make more and more until eventually you are making as much as you like from doing what you love. This is all you need to know about building a career, and yet it can be complex to execute. Just try. Fail. Try again. Fail again. Try even harder, try, try, try… and you will succeed!
Everyone needs to deal with money, whether they want to or not (I don’t), so you might as well learn how to make the most of it, get good with it, and make it work for you rather than the other way around. Too many people are brought up with limiting or damaging beliefs surrounding money which ultimately don’t help them to grow their own wealth in adulthood. I mean it. My mom always says that you have to live from what you have. And even though I really believe you have to be thankful for every little thing, you still need to work for more. Because there are seriously no limitations. If you know that this has been the case for you, you might feel that all is lost – but that is never the case. So long as you work towards improving your finances, you will find that there are always strides to be made, so you should never feel that it is too late to get on top of your money.
First of all, make sure that you have enough to get by. You might occasionally need to borrow money from those you know (best case scenario) or take out cash loans, and there is nothing wrong with that so long as you pay it all back in the end. But if you want to grow your own wealth, you need to make sure that you are properly budgeting and planning for your own financial future in a way which is logical, sensible and straightforward. To be honest, that is the main thing you need to think about here – along with trying to curb any likelihood to overspend or waste your money on impulse purchases, which can easily happen. As long as you can rein that in, you will be in good stead with regards to your money. One of the best ways to gain a lot of money, of course, is to forge a successful career and master passive income. (Let me know if you would like to read an article about generating passive income.)
5. Being Nice
I could not publish this article without including this point. Wherever you go you can find anger, mean comments on social media, people who pretend that they don’t know you, people who speak behind your back… I could go on forever. So just be different. Don’t be afraid to be nice. Don’t be afraid to give a compliment to your sister, co-worker or a random stranger. Say hello to your neighbours, help an old lady to get on a train and just stop yourself from writing that mean comment on that silly post.
